A Walk Down Winchester

The following time-lapse video, filmed on 09/28/19, shows the challenges of navigating northbound Winchester as a pedestrian or bicyclist. It also highlights the many developments that are in the planning stages.

  • 00:23 – 5 Story mixed-Use at Cadillac & Winchester
  • 00:59 – Sidewalk ends
  • 01:10 – 6 Story hotel
  • 01:48 – 7 Story mixed-use condo/commercial
  • 02:02 – Changes to Winchester & Williams intersection
  • 02:33 – Another sidewalk ends
  • 03:13 – Opportunity lost for a wider sidewalk
  • 03:35 – East coast coffee shop coming to Winchester
  • 04:16 – Ouch
  • 04:40 – The Winchester Ranch Mobile Home Park
  • 05:00 – Santana West – almost 1M of new commercial space
  • 05:12 – 76 station & piano store are out – multi-story developments are in
  • 05:31 – The 18 story Volar
  • 05:48 – 5 story commercial replacing Khahns
  • 06:10 – The Agrihood
  • 06:22 – The multistory senior apartments

This haphazard street configuration points to the need for multi-city, multi-departmental and agency coordination to improve this “Grand Boulevard”. To watch the WNAC meeting where this was discussed, please go to this post – https://winchesternac.com/2019/09/26/10-2-19-meeting-walking-biking-scooting-and-more-on-the-stevens-creek-winchester-corridors/

Another sidewalk to nowhere – literally, the sidewalk is on private property across the street on this part of southbound Winchester
Examples of 20′ sidewalks – As long as this is an auto repair show will there be enough pedestrian demand to justify this width?
Are these benches and bike stalls open to the public? If so, as long as the auto repair facility is here, will they ever see any use?
