Shannon Sanders McDonald, AIA, Assistant Professor of Architecture at Southern Illinois University, discusses the built environment starting with the impact of Apple’s new campus. She points to earlier developments (e.g. Morgantown, WV Personal Rapid Transit), as well as a new development, Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, that features pedestrian-friendly walkways, supported by a driverless personal transit system. Cars are parked at the edge of this city that is planned to grow to 40,000 people.
